What is Acitrom 0.5mg Tablet?

This tablet is an anticoagulant or blood thinner which is used in the treatment and stop of abnormal blood clots. This drug does not dissolve the blood clot that has already formed but may avoid it from becoming larger and leading to more severe problems. Close monitoring of INR and prothrombin time is necessary during treatment with this medicine.

Avoidance and treatment of thromboembolism.

This medication is used in the treatment and avoidance of thromboembolism that may occur after an acute myocardial infarct, post cardiac stent implant and cardiac valve replacement. It can be used as a precaution for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), in stopping thromboembolism during a prolonged hospitalization after a critical disease and in non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

How does Acitrom 0.5mg Tablet work?

This tablet is used to avoid and treat blood clots in blood vessels (e.g.Atrial fibrillation (a disorder in beat and speed of heart), after a heart attack, artificial heart valves, deep venous thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism). It stops the emergence of blood clots by blocking the influence of vitamin K, which is essential in the organic process of clot formation.

How to take Acitrom 0.5mg Tablet?

The dosage and the drug form depend on the age, weight and medical condition of an individual. Grab this medication as prescribed by your doctor.

Swallow the medicine whole. Do not crush or chew the tablet. Take tablets with or without food.

If you miss a dose of your drug, take it immediately once you remember. But, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a twice dose to make up for the lost dose.

This medication should be used with extreme attention in child and adolescents with close monitoring of PT/INR due to the increased possibility of severe adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments should be based entirely on the clinical condition.

Geriatric use

Initiate this medicine therapy with low doses in patients above 65 years of age due to the increased possibility of adverse effects.

Surgery

Close monitoring of coagulation status is warranted while a patient receiving this medication undergoes surgical procedures or tooth extraction due to the increased possibility of excessive bleeding. Appropriate corrective measures and dose adjustments may be required based on the clinical condition.

Intramuscular Injections

Intramuscular injections may cause hematomas in patients receiving this medicine, and hence they are not recommended for use during treatment with Acitrom 0.5mg Tablet.

Renal Impairment
