Temonat 100mg Capsule (Temozolomide)

This medication is an anticancer agent, used for brain cancers i.e. anaplastic astrocytoma and glioblastoma multiforme. It is also used for treating melanoma. It slows or stops the growth of cancer cells in the body.

It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, should be taken on an empty stomach. Anaplastic astrocytoma: The starting dose is 150 mgm2 once daily for first 5 days in 28days cycle. It may be adjusted depending upon blood counts. Max: 200 mgm2day. Metastatic melanoma: The dose is given in range of 150 – 200mgm2 once daily for first 5 days in 28days cycle, as a single therapy.

• Chance of getting an infection. Wash hands often. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu. Headache. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. You may need drugs to lower this side effect. Talk with your doctor. Hard stools (constipation). Drinking more liquids, working out, or adding fiber to your diet may help. Talk with your doctor about a stool softener or laxative. Loose stools (diarrhea). Swelling in the arms or legs. Hair loss. Hair most often grows back when this drug is stopped. Feeling tired or weak. Not hungry. Low white blood cell count or low platelet count. Irritation where the shot is given.

• If you have an allergy to temozolomide, dacarbazine, or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant. If you are breast-feeding.
